An 18,000-litre rainwater tank for Poguwatu, Sumba Tengah, built by local leaders and residents, with help from EffortX Foundation volunteers.
Poguwatu (also written Pogawatu) is a remote settlement in Desa Cendana, Sumba Tengah, East Nusa Tenggara. Families draw their daily water from an unprotected hole at the foot of a cliff, and travel 15 to 20 km for clean drinking water. Between October 2025 and January 2026, local leaders from Sumba, including Dimas (Ultramas El Shaday), who now chairs Yayasan Jejak Kasih Indonesia, built a permanent 18,000-litre reinforced concrete tank in the village with residents, to collect and store rainwater. EffortX Foundation volunteers helped on site. The project was funded in full by an allocation from the EffortX Community Fund, and ran under EffortX Foundation's name because no Indonesian entity existed yet. Materials were carried to the site by hand with the help of community members. The project ended with clean-water and sanitation education for children and families, system testing, and a formal handover to the community. The project was added to effort.giving on 31 January 2026, after the work was done, and its four stages were recorded there in early February. The tank still works, and its water is far cleaner than the hole, but it fills only when it rains. The next step is a borehole to keep it full through the dry season.
