Supporting continued medical treatment for a child living with chronic lupus
Sisilia’s initial emergency treatment is complete. Thanks to donor support, she was safely transferred from Sumba to Bali, admitted to the hospital, received urgent medical care, and began specialist monitoring and recovery. Doctors have since confirmed that Sisilia is living with lupus, a chronic autoimmune condition that requires ongoing treatment, monitoring, and medication. Unlike her original emergency care, lupus does not have a clear end date, and treatment may continue for months or longer, depending on how her body responds. This project exists to support Sisilia’s ongoing medical care, transparently and separately from the original emergency fundraiser. The original project was designed for emergency intervention and has now been fully completed. Rather than extending or altering that project, we’ve created a new, clearly scoped project to acknowledge that the emergency phase is finished, be honest about the long-term nature of lupus, and allow supporters to contribute voluntarily to ongoing care. This ensures clarity, accountability, and trust for everyone involved.

To ensure Sisilia continues receiving safe, specialist medical care for lupus, reducing the risk of severe flare-ups and long-term complications while supporting her recovery, stability, and quality of life.
Sisilia receives uninterrupted access to specialist lupus treatment, monitoring, and prescribed medication.
Regular medical assessments are completed to track disease activity and adjust treatment as needed.
Reduced risk of severe lupus flare-ups, hospitalisation, or preventable complications through continuous care.
Improved overall health stability, enabling Sisilia to safely return to daily activities and schooling when medically appropriate.
Ensuring that communities become self-sufficient through phased implementation.
Support Sisilia’s continued lupus treatment through specialist consultations, medication, diagnostic testing, and recovery support. Focus is on stabilising her condition, managing symptoms, and reducing the risk of severe flare-ups through consistent medical care.
If Sisilia’s condition stabilises, focus will shift toward long-term disease management, follow-up care, and supporting her return to normal daily activities such as schooling when medically appropriate. Care plans will adapt based on medical guidance and her progress.
If Sisilia’s condition remains stable, this phase focuses on long-term lupus management, including periodic specialist reviews, medication adjustments, and monitoring to prevent flare-ups. Support will adapt to her medical needs and aim to maintain health stability while encouraging a return to normal daily activities where medically appropriate.
Lupus is a lifelong condition, and intermittent medical support may be required beyond fixed timelines. This phase recognises the need for flexibility and ensures Sisilia can access appropriate care if flare-ups or complications arise, with all support guided by medical advice and shared transparently with supporters.
Once the project is finished, donors share their experiences and verified impact reports are published here.
