Ingredients for school meals at remote schools in Sumba that no state kitchen serves, cooked by each school for its own children. Starting at the primary school in Wai-Wei, Lewa.
Indonesia's free school meals programme cooks in state kitchens and delivers to the schools within their reach. Some schools in Sumba are too remote for any kitchen to reach. For those schools we fund the ingredients and the school cooks for its own children. Since early September, about 200 students at the primary school in Wai-Wei, Lewa have had a meal twice a week this way. Each term's money is released only after the school's ingredient receipts, meal-day log and attendance for the term before are posted. If a state kitchen starts serving a school, we stop funding meals there and move to the next remote school. Our separate kitchen project, A school meals kitchen for Sumba, is the longer-term plan to cook daily for several schools in one area. We work in Sumba with our partner, Yayasan Jejak Kasih Indonesia. Funds are raised and receipted by EffortX Foundation Ltd (Australia) and released to the yayasan term by term.
